Local Democratic Party to Host County Delegate Convention March 5

Maryville, Tenn. January 22, 2016 – The Blount County Democratic Party will host its Democratic Party County Delegate Convention on Saturday, March 5, 2016. The Convention will be held at the Martin Luther King Center at 209 E. Franklin Street in Alcoa to select the delegates from Blount County to the District Convention. The doors open at 11:00am for registration and sign in. Doors will then be closed and locked promptly at 1:00pm during the proceedings. The event is open to all registered voters in Blount County, supporters of the Democratic Party, and those who agree to support the nominee of the Democratic Party in the 2016 Presidential election. All Democrats who wish to participate in selecting Tennessee’s delegates to the Democratic Presidential Convention are welcome to attend. In order to participate in the proceedings, you must be credentialed. In order to be considered credentialed you must meet ALL of the following requirements: 1. Voted in the March 1st Democratic Presidential Primary during the early voting period or on election day March 1st.
2. Pledge support for Democratic candidates. 3. Agree to support the Democratic nominee in the 2016 Presidential election. You may not participate in the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

The February meeting will be the first meeting at Martin Luther King Center at 209 E. Franklin St. in Alcoa.  (The January meeting was canceled due to marginal weather) It will be Thursday Feb. 11st at 6:30pm.

Voter Information, From the BCDP Chair

The  Tennessee  Primary  is  March 1st  – Super Tuesday!!

Voter Registration is still open and you must be registered by Feb. 1st in order to vote in the Primary.
Check the Blount Election Commission website for additional info:

Here are some tips:

– Make sure you are still on the rolls.  Call: Election Office Phone – 865-273-5920   or  email – elections@blounttn.org

– If you have had a name change or  address change contact the Election Office.
Change of Address:
If you are currently a registered voter in Blount county and have a change of address, please complete the Mail-In Application for Voter Registration form, (click here for form), print it, and return it to the Election Commission at the following address:

You should receive your new voter registration card within a few days.  Your voter registration card will indicate your new voting location.  If you have any questions, please call the Election Office at (865) 273-5920.

– Have state issued PHOTO ID with you when you go to vote.
Acceptable forms of ID:
-Tennessee driver license with photo
-United States Passport
-Department of Safety ID
– U.S. Military Photo ID
– Tennessee handgun carry permit with photo
– Any other photo ID issued by the federal government or state of Tennessee

Expired IDs are valid for voting purposes

Additional  Voter Info:

* If you fail to bring a photo ID to tvote, You can still vote a provisional ballot – then you will have 2 business days after Election Day to return to the election Office to show a valid photo ID for your ballot to be counted.
* If you do NOT have a photo ID. you can obtain a FREE photo ID for voting from the Dept. of Safety – Driver Services Center.  You must have documents of proof of citizenship, 2 proof of TN residency, and proof of name changes.
* If your Driver Lic. does not have photo – you can have it added to your current license FREE.

Photo Exemptions:  absentee by mail, residents of nursing homes or assisted living facilities who vote at those facilities, voters in hospitals, voters with religious objection to being photographed,  voters who are indigent and can not afford to get photo ID without paying a fee.

BCDP regular monthly meeting with Change of Date, New Location

For 2016 we have a new meeting location for our regular monthly meetings. (second Thursdays of each month at  6:30pm).
HOWEVER, The January meeting will be the first meeting at Martin Luther King Center at 209 E. Franklin St. in Alcoa.  It will be Jan. 21st due to work being done at the Center through the 2nd week of January.
Then, in February, we will continue our 2nd Thursday meetings at the MLK Center.

Finding the Blount County Election Commission On Line

I exchanged a few emails with the BC Election commission this past week asking specifically about which offices are up for election for which petitions to get on the ballot are available and the schedule for early voting.

They say they are working on the web site and hope to have it updated soon.  They did send me the following:
