Mary Lynn is a native Kentuckian born in Harlan County and proudly claims being a coal miner’s daughter. She has lived most of her life in Corbin, KY but has made Maryville and Blount County her home since 2007.
She attended Eastern Kentucky University and received her BS degree in Accounting from the University of the Cumberlands. She is a retired Certified Public Accountant and worked for a regional accounting firm before owning her own firm. She was a member of the American Society of CPAs, Kentucky Society of CPAs, and the Chamber of Commerce. Prior to that, Mary Lynn worked in the healthcare industry and was Controller and Chief Financial Officer of the local hospital. She was a representative to the Kentucky Hospital Association as well as a member and on the in-house education faculty of the Hospital Financial Management Association. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and served as County Co-Chair of the March of Dimes.
After moving to Maryville, Mary Lynn assisted her daughter, Dr. Rebecca Lucas, in establishing the local chapter of PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). PFLAG Maryville is a support, education and advocacy organization for the LGBTQIA community. She served on the Board of Directors and held the office of Treasurer for four years. She continues to support PFLAG Maryville, its programs and objectives.
Currently, she has helped organize two nonprofit corporations and has been successful in obtaining §501(c)(3) tax exemption status from the IRS. She is on the Board of Directors and holds the office of Treasurer in both. She is also a member of two Facebook networks and serves as Admin or Co-Admin on several of the groups within those networks. One of the networks was formerly hosted on another platform and she helped transition its groups and members to Facebook. Mary Lynn is widowed, has two daughters, two stepchildren and seven grandchildren.
